"Our ability to produce, consume, and distribute knowledge is an unlimited, unfiltered, and immediate way is the primary reason for the changers we see today." (Pg 51) The 21st Century is a world in constant flux, where information can spread quicker than a heartbeat. In order to survive the 21st Century, citizens must be prepared to consume, produce and distribute knowledge at the speed of the Internet connection. In order to prepare students to be functional citizens, teachers must facilitate lessons that harness inquiry.
In a New Culture of Learning, the idea of collectives where knowledge is shared among a community is discussed. The concept of a blog was redefined which helped emphasize their purpose and importance as a resource. Blogs are a medium for learning and generate a space for collective community. (Pg. 54) By blogging, I am not just a writer spouting my words to the world, but I host a discussion among experts or those in the process of learning. Because of the nature of blogging, I see the importance of having my own blog and participating in fellow educators blogs. I see that blogs are an important educator resource.
As an educator, I need to prepare students for the 21st century. I can integrate and model working in the digital world. Students learn by watching, doing, experiencing, and interacting with the digital world and engaging with knowledge. (Pg. 76) To have students truly engage with knowledge, teachers need to value the ability to generate questions more than the ability to answer them. (Pg. 81) Building a curriculum that develops and is centered around inquiry will encourage students to engage with knowledge and utilizing digital resources will promote this kind of learning.
